May 10, 2015 additions
Two of our quarterly meetings passed without us being able to give you news. Today, we bring 72 additions, of which about twenty from Roger Chazal's fund. These will probably be the last from this contributor to our site, the first to give us his photographs (nearly 300 found to date). He died on the 4th of April 2015, aged 85. He belonged to this small Saigon group of French professors to whom ethnologist Jean Boulbet, at the end of the 1950s', chose to disclose the life of Highlands. As a photographer and witness, his work is mostly of third rate importance; Roger Chazal never spent much time among the Montagnards even if he wished having been able to deepen a sincere interest for these population of the forest. Nonetheless, he took a few interesting pictures of the evolution of local populations under the battering of Ngô Đình Diệm's administration and massive kinh immigration. Such as this series of two. You can see most of his work by selecting Chazal, Roger in the author field of the multicriteria search.
- For our quarterly favorite, we chose this young woman with parakeets, a photograph probably bought by Roger Chazal during his stay in Vietnam from 1958 to 1964.
